## Why It Matters

In paid media, data and spend often get all the attention, but the role of creative is often overlooked. Without strong, engaging ads, even the biggest budgets can only take you so far. Spend alone won't improve CTRs or conversions. On the flip side, great creative without sufficient reach can't scale if it doesn't get in front of the right audience. The campaigns that truly reach their potential are the ones that treat creative as a core part of the strategy, not an afterthought.

### Creative Supports Performance

Big budgets can't make up for weak ads or messaging. If your content doesn't grab attention, communicate clear value, or actually connect with your audience, it'll just get lost in the noise. When that happens, engagement drops and spend becomes less efficient rather than working as effectively as it could.

That's why creative strategy matters. It's not just about having lots of assets, but about building a thoughtful content portfolio and continuously testing what works.

At the centre of it all is your audience. What do they actually want to see? What do they care about? Sometimes it's the product itself, sometimes it's how it's made, and sometimes it might be something more human like behind the scenes insights. Keep testing different concepts, hooks, and video styles, then look at how your audience responds. Use that feedback loop to improve over time. Stay flexible, and be open to change, because audience needs and preferences can change over time.

### Social Channels Move Fast

Platforms like [TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/) and [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/) are constantly evolving, with new ad formats, trends, and user behaviours emerging all the time. Brands that aren’t actively listening to their audience and updating their ads accordingly can quickly fall out of step, making it harder to stand out, stay relevant, and drive performance, ultimately limiting CVR potential. The key is balancing responsiveness with consistency, adapting to what works without chasing every trend or platform, while staying aligned to your brand values and positioning.

### Invest in Creative to Maximise Performance

No matter how much you spend, performance can only get you so far without strong creative and strategy. It shouldn't be an afterthought in paid media. It's worth investing part of your budget into developing ads that actually make your audience stop scrolling, engage, convert, and remember your brand.

Think about it - what ads actually make you stop scrolling? Chances are it's not the ones that blend in with everything else or the ones you keep seeing over and over without being refreshed.

Some questions to ask yourself:

- What do we know about our audience - their needs, interests, and pain points?
- How does our product or service fit into their life, and what value are we offering them?
- How are we bringing this to life in a way that stands out, through content, storytelling, or partnering with influencers/content creators?

## FAQs

Why is creative so important in performance marketing?

Creative is what captures attention, communicates value, and drives engagement. Without strong creative, even high budgets and precise targeting can only take your campaigns so far.

Can strong media spend compensate for weak creative?

Not really. Big budgets might increase impressions, but if the creative doesn’t resonate, clicks, conversions, and engagement will suffer, meaning you’re not maximising your spend.

How often should I refresh my creative?

Creative should be updated regularly to stay relevant. For social platforms like TikTok and Instagram, refreshing every 2–3 months or when engagement dips is a good rule of thumb.

What types of creative perform best?

It depends on your audience and platform, but testing a mix of formats including video, carousels, static images, as well as different hooks and messaging, is key to finding what resonates.

How do I know if my creative is underperforming?

Look at engagement metrics like CTR, time on landing page, and conversions. Low engagement despite strong targeting often indicates that the creative isn’t capturing attention or communicating value effectively.
